Q:
What is considered to be cosmetic dentistry?
A:
Cosmetic dentistry includes any dental procedure that enhances the appearance of your teeth and your smile. This includes orthodontics, crowns, bonding, white fillings, veneers, teeth whitening and more.
Q:
Many of these cosmetic procedures would seem to be necessary for oral health, like orthodontics or crowns. Are they covered by insurance?
A:
In many cases when a dental procedure has sound oral health benefits, like orthodontics, dentures or crowns to fix broken or decayed teeth, the procedure may be covered by dental insurance in part or in whole. Strictly cosmetic procedures like porcelain veneers and teeth whitening are usually not covered.
Q:
If I have a bad tooth can I have it pulled and get it replaced with a denture or implant to improve my appearance?
A:
Your natural teeth are always best, and many times a bad tooth can be saved with root canal therapy. However, the decision is ultimately yours. If you choose to have a bad tooth extracted or if a tooth cannot be saved, a replacement tooth is recommended not only for your appearance but also for your dental structure and oral hygiene.
Q:
Can anyone get dental implants to replace missing teeth?
A:
After an exam by Dr. Nokrashy, it may be decided that you are not a good candidate for implants. This usually happens if you do not have a sufficient amount of bone in your jaws for the implants to be inserted into, or if you have certain health problems, like diabetes.
Q:
Why should I have a professional teeth whitening when there are so many whitening products available in stores?
A:
Store whitening products are not as strong as professional whitening treatments and generally can only remove surface stains. In-office professional whitening can penetrate the enamel and remove stains below it, which reflect through the enamel if they are not removed. If you prefer to whiten your teeth at home, you can purchase a professional whitening kit from us for home use.
Q:
What if I have multiple cosmetic dental issues and don't know where to start?
A:
Call us for a consultation appointment to discuss your cosmetic and oral health needs. A preliminary exam will let us find out what work needs to be done for your oral health, and your desires for your smile will be included in a plan to give you a smile restoration. We can combine multiple procedures to give you a healthy and beautiful smile.
